A teaser for Focker-In-Law has arrived, giving the next sequel its first public push and putting at the center of a franchise return that is now aimed at November 2026. is keeping her character and the plot under wraps, but the studio has made clear the new film is part of a familiar family reunion built around , , and .

The timing matters because 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Meet the Parents, the 2000 comedy that introduced Greg Focker, played by Stiller, and the nerve-racking wedding weekend that put him face to face with Jack and Dina Byrnes on Long Island. The franchise went on to Meet the Fockers in 2004 and Little Fockers in 2010, and reported the three films have grossed $1.13 billion worldwide. With that kind of history, the new teaser is less a surprise than a signal that Universal thinks the title still has an audience willing to turn up for another round.

Grande’s casting was never a random add-on. Deadline reported that after Wicked, she had plenty of scripts coming her way, but her strong ties to Universal helped bring her back to the studio on a project it is excited about. John Hamburg wrote the script and is directing, and the sequel is staying close enough to the original formula to bring back the core ensemble while adding new names around the edges. Grande said in November that she was filming in New York and working alongside the original Meet the Parents crew, along with Skyler Gisondo and Beanie Feldstein, while also doing promotional work for Wicked: For Good.

Stiller has already said Grande blended in amazingly with the cast, calling her a pro, very funny and part of a very unique character in the movie. Grande seemed to back that up on July 12, 2025, when she posted an Instagram carousel that included a shot from a June 17 table read, then returned on October 31 with behind-the-scenes photos and a note that the past few months had been unimaginably special. She said she loved her Fockers and her Byrnes, which is about as close as the studio has come to confirming how deeply she has been folded into the family. The only real mystery left is the one Universal still wants to keep sealed: what role she is playing, and how that changes the balance of a franchise that has already made its name out of making one man sweat through every family dinner.

The answer is that the franchise is not being rebooted so much as reopened, with the original cast, a new star and a release date that gives Universal nearly a year to build the case for another meeting with the Fockers.
