AJ McCarron is set to coach his first game inside Alabama on Saturday, when the Birmingham Stallions host the Orlando Storm at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT, and it will be the home opener for McCarron’s team.
The Stallions arrive at 1-2 after back-to-back losses, a rough start for McCarron in his first year as head coach. He said he is excited about the matchup with an undefeated Orlando team and is hoping for a huge crowd and a loud atmosphere to help the Stallions turn things around.
“We’re going to be at home, so hopefully we have a huge crowd, hopefully that it’s a loud atmosphere for the opposing team, and we can turn this thing around,” McCarron said. He added that sitting at 1-2 still leaves plenty of time to turn the ship in the right direction, but the team has to buy in and do it for four quarters.
Gucci Mane is scheduled to provide the halftime entertainment, adding another layer to a game that carries more than just early-season weight for Birmingham. The Stallions need a response at home, and McCarron’s first Alabama sideline game will offer a clear measure of how quickly his team can settle in.
