Matthew Tkachuk was in the stands at Lenovo Center for Game 2 on Monday night, making the trip from his home in Fort Lauderdale to Raleigh to watch Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk and his teammates. He sat with his parents, Keith and Chantal, as the game unfolded.
The appearance matched what Matthew said he would do on the Wingmen podcast, when he said he would be boots on the ground for one of Brady’s games this series and that it was time to return the favour. Brady had long been a familiar face around Matthew’s career, often seen cheering for him when he played with the Calgary Flames and again during his two playoff runs to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Panthers.
The timing also carried added weight because Matthew and his wife, Ellie, recently welcomed their first child, daughter Camille Marie. That was part of why Brady said last Tuesday in Ottawa that he expected to see his brother on the road but understood he might be tied up at home. Brady said Matthew’s family situation would make the visit uncertain, but the trip came through anyway.
For now, the sight of Matthew in Raleigh said as much as any public statement could. He showed up for Brady the way Brady had shown up for him, and he did it while juggling a new chapter at home. That kind of family debt is simple to explain and rare to see paid in person.
