Interstate 10 reopened in both directions in east Bexar County on Sunday after lightning struck equipment supporting a power line during overnight storms. Cps Energy crews were sent to the 13000 block of I-10 that morning to make repairs.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office temporarily shut down the roadway from the west and east while the work was underway. Cps Energy said its law enforcement partners paused traffic for about 15 minutes so crews could complete the repairs safely.
The damage was storm-related, and the utility said the traffic stop was a precaution to protect the public and its employees. With the repairs finished, crews remained on site to secure the equipment, but Cps Energy said drivers should still move over or slow down while workers are there.
The immediate question after the shutdown was whether I-10 would stay closed for longer. It did not. The road reopened, and Cps Energy said traffic is not expected to be stopped again while crews finish securing the equipment.
