New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis was not ready Wednesday to spell out what the team will do with Alvin Kamara, Cam Jordan and Taysom Hill as Thursday’s NFL draft approached. Loomis said the next three days could affect those decisions, adding, “Yeah, I think it could impact it,” and “You know, we’ll see what happens. And that goes both ways — that may impact them, from their perspective, as well as ours.”
The warning mattered because the Saints have already been working around Kamara’s contract and Jordan’s place in a defense that wants to get younger on the edge. Kamara’s 2026 cap hit dropped from more than $18 million to $10.5 million after an unconventional restructure, and the team would like to address the deal further, with a pay cut, a cut or a trade all possible if it moves on. Jordan, 36, is still a free agent and has said he wants a chance to finish with 10-12 sacks.
Loomis did not sound like a man preparing to stand pat. He said Wednesday the Saints are not “one player away,” a remark that fits a front office that has not been shy about moving aggressively when it sees value. He traded up for Kamara in 2017 after signing Adrian Peterson in free agency, and he drafted Reggie Bush in 2006 while Deuce McAllister was still on the roster.
That history leaves room for another surprise, but not necessarily at running back. Jeremiyah Love has been mentioned as a possible target, though it would be a major surprise if he ended up in New Orleans, and one mock draft from Todd McShay even had the Saints trading up to No. 3. More likely fits include Mike Washington of Arkansas, projected as a third-rounder, or Nicholas Singleton of Penn State. If New Orleans skips a running back altogether, Kamara’s chances of returning would rise.
Jordan’s situation is harder to read, because the same move that keeps the Saints from reaching for another edge rusher could also preserve his role. Add another pass rusher, and his workload would likely shrink. For a veteran still chasing a milestone and a team trying to reshape its roster at the top of the draft, the next few days may decide more than one position group.
