PSG can move six points clear at the top of Ligue 1 if they beat Angers on Saturday night, after Lens were held to a 3-3 draw at Brest on Friday. The match at Angers was scheduled to kick off at 19h and be followed live on Foot Mercato.
Luis Enrique named a reshaped PSG side in a 4-3-3, with Safonov in goal, Zaïre-Emery and Lucas Hernandez at full-back and Zabarnyi alongside Pacho in central defence. Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz joined Beraldo in midfield, with Beraldo again used as a holding midfielder, while Lee and Barcola supported Gonçalo Ramos up front. PSG were without Ndjantou, Marquinhos and Vitinha.
Angers also went into the game with absentees, as Dujeux was without Arcus, Belkhdim, Courcoul, Djibrin, Loué and Pona. Koffi, who had been hurt in the last training session, still started in goal. Lefort, Biumla and Bamba formed the back three, with Raolisoa and Ékomié as wing-backs, Capelle, Belkebla and van den Boomen in midfield, and Sbaï and Peter leading the attack.
The stakes were not limited to the title chase. Angers were still not mathematically safe in Ligue 1, with four league matches remaining, and PSG were trying to keep momentum between their two games against Bayern Munich. That leaves the same match carrying two pressures at once: one team chasing a cushion at the top, the other trying to buy itself room above the drop zone.
The complication is that PSG arrived with a chance to exploit Lens dropping points, but also with a changed lineup and a Champions League schedule around the corner. For Angers, the fact that Koffi could start despite injury underlined how tight the margins already were. Saturday’s lineup sheet made the priorities plain before a ball was kicked.
What happens next is simple enough: if PSG take the points, they turn Friday night’s Lens result into a genuine gap in the title race. If they do not, the race stays open and the missed chance will linger, because this was the sort of weekend that can shape a season.
