Monday and Tuesday are shaping up as absolutely stunning days across the region, with sunshine, dry air and temperatures climbing into the 60s inland and the 50s at the coast. Monday will bring mid- to upper 60s inland and mid- to upper 50s at the coast, while Tuesday should run about 5 to 7 degrees cooler as a northeasterly flow of air moves in off the water.
For Greater Boston, the forecast calls for sunshine on Monday and Tuesday, with only some cloudiness possible late Tuesday. Central and Western Mass. should also get two beautiful days, and Rhode Island will see sunny skies on Monday. There is no chance of significant precipitation on Tuesday, so the region gets one more quiet day before the weather changes.
That change starts Wednesday, when low pressure approaches the area. Precipitation is expected Wednesday night into Thursday, and the heaviest bands of rainfall Thursday into Friday still need to be determined. Even so, the region is likely to see at least half an inch of rain later this week and perhaps up to an inch or more, enough to matter after a very dry stretch.
Most areas have been running 2 to 3 inches below average over the past 30 days, and the dry ground means the system should be able to absorb a decent amount of water. There is no flooding risk because it has been so dry, and the forecast may be just what the region needs after weeks of below-normal rainfall. Temperatures will slip back into the 50s later in the week and may reach the 40s at the water's edge as the cooler air settles in.
