The acquired utilityman from the for cash considerations on Tuesday afternoon and cleared a 40-man roster spot by transferring to the 60-day injured list.

Fitzgerald, 28, was designated for assignment on April 24 after going 3-for-20 in six games for , and he is expected to report to Triple-A Oklahoma City as organizational depth. The move gives Los Angeles a versatile option who has seen time at every infield and outfield position in his MLB career and has even pitched three innings.

The deal adds a player who spent the previous three seasons in the majors with the from 2023 to 2025. Over that stretch, Fitzgerald hit.252/.309/.430 with 21 homers, 53 RBI, 75 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, a 106 wRC+ and 3.3 WAR. His best year came in 2024, when he batted.280/.334/.497 with 15 home runs, 34 RBI, 53 runs scored, 17 stolen bases and a 132 wRC+ in 96 games. In 2025, he hit.217/.278/.327 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 72 games.

Fitzgerald also spent three games at the start of the 2026 season with before being designated for assignment on March 30. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft by the Giants out of the University of Louisville, a path that eventually made him one of the more flexible depth players available on the market.

Knack’s move was tied to a different kind of roster management. He began the season on the 15-day injured list with an intercostal strain he sustained on March 13 while throwing a bullpen, and the stint was retroactive to March 22, making May 21 his earliest return date. The right-hander has thrown 111.1 innings at the major league level for Los Angeles with a 4.12 ERA, appearing in games in both 2024 and 2025 as a swingman and replacement starter.

The Dodgers have kept Knack in the organization since selecting him in the second round of the 2020 Draft. He has also thrown 398 innings in the minors with a 4.30 ERA and already owns two World Series rings, but Tuesday’s move suggests the club needs his roster spot more than his immediate presence as it waits for his recovery to run its course.
