“Outlander” fans will have to wait a week longer for season 8 episode 9. The episode will not air on May 2 and is now set for May 9, while episode 10, the finale, remains scheduled for May 16.
The streamer said May 2 will be a skip week, but gave no reason for the change. The delay interrupts the show’s weekly run that has held since March on Starz in the US and MGM+ in the UK.
The timing matters because the season has been moving quickly toward its end, with William and Jamie already reunited in the series. Their reunion carried extra weight when William emotionally asked Jamie for forgiveness, a moment that sharpened the final stretch of the season.
For viewers filling the gap, the prequel Outlander: Blood of My Blood is the easiest place to go next. The series debuted in 2025 and follows Claire and Jamie’s parents, Henry, Julia, Brian and Ellen, while also weaving in time travel. Its second season is already set to arrive later in 2026, even though it was greenlit before season 1 premiered.
Jeremy Irvine, who stars in the prequel, has said viewers will see the characters at the end of season 1 and then find season 2 starting in a way that is “wildly not what you’d expect.” He also described being thrown by his first costume fitting, saying he had no idea what the strange outfit was meant for until he saw how the story was heading. For now, though, the next date that matters is May 9, when Outlander season 8 episode 9 finally lands.
