The comedy show started at 8pm on Friday, May 1, but a member of the production team informed the crowd at around 8.45pm that the show would not be continuing. People in the audience said there had been no warning that anything was wrong before the announcement, and some said they saw police in the arena as fans were moved out.

Fans quickly posted on X about what was happening inside the venue. One wrote: “Just been evacuated out the Utilitia Arena Birmingham and Peter Kay bundled off stage”. Another said: “Being evacuated from the Peter Kay gig in Birmingham. No information as to why.” A third posted: “Peter Kay gig in Birmingham has been cancelled 45mins in. Peter bundled off stage and the venue evacuated. Police on site. Stay safe, Birmingham.” Another added: “So not the evening we expected. Evacuated from Birmingham Utilita. Peter Kay brilliant for 45 mins then some p**** has to ruin it. All out safe and quickly.”

The Birmingham show was part of a national tour whose profits were to be donated to 12 leading cancer charities. Kay was due back at the arena on Saturday, May 2, but it was still unclear why Friday’s performance was pulled. said it had contacted and organisers for more details.
