Star Wars fans in the Denver area will get an early start on May The 4th this weekend, with library events, a brewery party and a themed 5K all scheduled before Monday’s annual observance. The celebrations begin Saturday and run into Sunday at spots in Edgewater, Denver, Westminster and Golden.

At , is set for Saturday, May 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1800 Harlan Street. Members of the 501st Legion will be there, and guests are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars character, enjoy treats and crafts, and have galactic fun.

will hold its event from 2 p.m. Saturday through midnight Sunday at 7101 East Colfax Avenue. The brewery plans to release a new black IPA called Maltering the Deal, with limited edition glassware featuring the Cantina band, and the Modal Nodes, going on sale at noon Saturday while supplies last. Flash-tattoos from and snacks from are also part of the event, and costumes are encouraged.

The weekend continues Sunday at 10 a.m. with the May the Fourth Be With You 5K, which begins and ends at , 12910 Zuni Street, Westminster. A free local craft brew will be waiting at the finish line, and runners in Jedi or dark-side attire can win extra beer and prizes during post-race festivities.

Golden Library will host May the Fourth be With You...a Day Early on Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 1019 10th Street, giving families one more chance to celebrate before the holiday itself arrives.

Star Wars Day is also known as May the Fourth Be With You Day, and this year many local events are moving up because May 4 falls on a Monday. That makes this weekend the main gathering point for fans looking to mark the date before the calendar catches up.
