showed up at the on May 4 with his wife, , in a look that immediately set off comparisons online to a Sith Lord. The 38-year-old arrived in a tailored black suit under a long hooded overcoat that reached the floor, finished with black gloves, sunglasses, a crisp white shirt and a black tie.

Ayesha Curry wore a strapless black bodice with a ruched texture, an off-shoulder leather jacket with oversized sleeves and a flowing sheer skirt. The couple attended the event, whose theme was “Costume Art” and dress code was “Fashion Is Art,” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Curry smiled at the attention, but not without a reminder of what was missing from his life right now. “On one hand, I love it,” he said during an interview at the gala. “On the other hand, that means I’m not playing basketball right now.”

That line carried extra weight because the Warriors finished the 2025-26 season with a 37-45 record and fell to the in the play-in tournament. Curry played only 43 games that season, averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.

For a player known first as a 4-time NBA champion, the Met Gala appearance underscored how far his reach now extends beyond the court. In recent years, he has increasingly moved into major cultural events and business ventures, and this one landed on Star Wars Day, which only sharpened the reaction to the hooded outfit.

The visual joke will fade. What lingers is the contrast between the polished public image and the basketball season he just came through. Curry was present, fashionable and very much in the conversation in New York. He was also, by his own admission, watching the game from the outside.
