voted 4-3 Tuesday to approve a licensing agreement tied to the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport, moving the airport name change required by state law one step closer to taking effect in July.

The agreement gives the county a perpetual, royalty-free license to use President International Airport for customary airport purposes, including signage, marketing, branding and operations. It also allows the county to use Trump’s name, image and likeness in promotional materials tied to the airport, subject to approval by the licensor, Trump’s company .

County officials said the deal comes at no cost and includes no royalties, fees or revenue sharing to Trump or his company. Staff also warned that failing to comply with the law could put state transportation funding and grant assurances at risk, making the licensing vote a legal and financial step rather than a choice over the airport’s final name.

More than 20 speakers signed up for public comment before the vote, and the debate showed how quickly the issue shifted from branding to political identity. urged commissioners to keep the old name, saying, “Palm Beach International Airport already represents who we are and where we live, and I respectfully ask that it remain that way,” while pressed staff on the consequences of rejecting the deal, asking, “So not only would we lose our seat at the table, we will be penalized?” and saying, “It’s not whether or not this airport gets renamed — it’s whether or not we maintain our seat at the table.”

defended the agreement, telling commissioners, “The agreement is valid and binding and royalty free — anyone claiming otherwise is simply wrong,” as Mayor interrupted a speaker and asked that comments remain respectful. The vote did not decide the airport’s name, because the new state law already requires the rename; it simply cleared the county to use the name legally while the required administrative steps are completed. With that vote in hand, the airport is set to become President Donald J. Trump International Airport in July.
