The Houston Astros recalled Zach Dezenzo from Triple-A on Wednesday in a roster shake-up that also brought back Alexander and Allen, optioned Weiss and designated Harris for assignment.
Harris was 7-for-31 with the Astros, batting.226 with a.286 on-base percentage and a.576 OPS. Weiss was sent out after a brutal run that pushed his ERA to 7.62 and his WHIP to 2.12, with 21 earned runs, 18 walks and seven home runs allowed over his last six appearances.
Those numbers mark a sharp turn for Weiss, who had posted a 1.50 ERA over his first three outings and six innings before the slide. Alexander last pitched on April 30, and the moves come as Houston continues to juggle a roster already missing its star third baseman for the rest of the season.
The timing leaves Dezenzo back in the majors at a moment when the Astros need stability more than a clean answer. Harris’ exit and Weiss’ demotion show the club is no longer waiting for production to normalize, and Wednesday’s moves make clear that Houston is prepared to keep cycling through options until it finds it.
