Apple is being linked to a major Macbook Pro redesign that would add OLED panels, touch input and a new front-camera layout, according to several established media outlets citing a report. The changes are being discussed for both the 14-inch and 16-inch Macbook Pro models, with the timing placed in late 2026 or early 2027.
The reports say the redesign would move the Macbook Pro to M6 SoCs and could use a hole-punch or Dynamic Island-like solution for the front-facing camera. Apple has not confirmed any of the plans.
The rumors matter now because they point to a possible shift in Apple’s longest-running design stance: the company has historically resisted touch on the Mac. reported in 2023, citing, that Apple was working internally on touch-enabled Macs, and the new reports revive that line of thinking with a specific product window. also places the planned relaunch of the Macbook Pro within that M6 product phase.
The OLED part of the story sounds more plausible than it once did because Apple already uses tandem OLED technology in the current iPad Pro. Even so, the reports do not spell out the engineering details that would decide how real the redesign is, including CPU or GPU architecture, manufacturing nodes, memory interfaces or thermal budget. Craig Federighi, in earlier interviews, had defended the classic Mac interface, which makes the touch talk a notable departure from Apple’s public posture.
For now, the clearest conclusion is that Apple is being described as preparing a more ambitious Macbook Pro reset than a routine spec bump. If the schedule holds, the next real test will come when the company decides whether the Mac can keep its traditional feel while borrowing more from the touch-first design language of its newer devices.
