face Lyon on Sunday with Warren Zaïre-Emery in position to make his 41st consecutive start, a streak that underlines how central the teenager has become to ’s side. The midfielder has already played 3,802 minutes in 46 matches this season and has taken part in every PSG game.

That workload comes as Enrique wants to rest some regular starters because of PSG’s upcoming schedule, which makes Zaïre-Emery’s place on the team sheet stand out even more. At 8 years old when he joined PSG, he has gone from academy prospect to the club’s most used player this season, and the numbers show how hard it has been for anyone else to dislodge him.

Belkebla, who knows Zaïre-Emery from his youth years, said he was not surprised by the level he has reached and likes that the youngster never picks and chooses his matches. He described a player with exceptional physical gifts and a rare mix of power, technique and game reading, saying the qualities that once made him small and light for his age are now part of what makes him so difficult to stop.

Marles said PSG have managed Zaïre-Emery carefully since 2022, pointing to a steady climb in workload that has seen him play 31 matches in 2022-2023, 43 the following season and 55 last season. He has already gone beyond the 3,179 minutes he logged in 2023-2024, and the club has kept trusting him even after last season’s ankle problems and a spring spell as a luxury substitute.

The balancing act is the most telling part of his season. Zaïre-Emery accepted a return to France’s Under-21 team in October last year to regain pleasure and confidence, yet at club level he has remained on the field almost without pause. Among players still alive in the Champions League, only has played more across all competitions.

PSG’s decision on Sunday will say plenty about how far Enrique is willing to push one of his most reliable players before the calendar tightens again. For now, Zaïre-Emery looks less like a young midfielder being eased into the elite than the player PSG lean on when they most need certainty.
