made his first posthumous appearance in Euphoria Season 3 on Sunday, when the actor’s character, , turned up about halfway through the episode “” to visit his son, . Dane died at 53 on Feb. 19, 2026, after an ALS battle, but he had already finished filming his role before his death.

The season opened with a quiet tribute to him, showing a photo onscreen with the message, “In remembrance of Eric Dane. 1972-2026.” His return in the second episode made the loss feel immediate again, not as an abstract memorial but as a new scene carrying his face, his voice and the old friction between Cal and Nate back into the story.

Inside the episode, Cal tells Nate he has been attending SLA meetings, short for Sex and Love Addicts, and comments on ’s photos while worrying that Nate may be having financial problems. Nate snaps back that his father is gay, in denial and that it came out in “very weird ways.” Cal answers, “I’m not gay, I was a hedonist.”

That exchange lands differently because Euphoria Season 3 is set five years after the events of , and Cal and Nate were already locked in a volatile relationship that included a physical fight, Cal saying Nate was his biggest regret and Nate calling the cops on him at the end of the previous season. The new episode does not smooth any of that over. It leans into it, with Dane’s final completed scenes carrying the weight of a character who never stopped being the wound at the center of the Jacobs family.

Dane announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, months before his death, and his final appearance now gives the season an unexpected frame: the show is moving forward, but it is doing so with a performance that can no longer be added to or changed. For viewers, the question has already been answered. Cal Jacobs is back on screen because Dane finished the work before he died, and Euphoria chose to let that performance stand.
