Heavy rain prompted a Flash Flood Warning until 11 p.m. for parts of Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties, and officials moved quickly to close roads, alert parents and shut down recreation in the Comal River. The evening batch of rain was moving east and was expected to clear Bexar County entirely by 11 p.m., but the rest of the night was still expected to bring mist, drizzle or a few showers into the morning commute.
Southwest ISD said drivers would take extra precautions to keep students safe after overnight rainfall, while Northside Independent School District warned parents that bus schedules could run late. The New Braunfels Fire Department said Comal River recreation was temporarily closed because of the warning, and fire and police officials had already prepared flood response vehicles, including swift water rescue boats, in case conditions worsened.
The weather had already dumped 1 to 3 inches of rain, with another 1 to 3 inches still possible on top of that. In Kirby, heavy rainfall led to dangerous conditions and forced closures on Gibbs Sprawl Rd and FM 78, and travelers were told to use alternate routes. Olmos Park also announced that Gates 1, 2, 3 and 4 were closed in the Olmos Basin.
The broader pattern was not expected to repeat Monday's severity, but Tuesday was still set to stay wet, with drizzle or showers possible for much of the day. That left road closures San Antonio and surrounding communities with a practical problem overnight and into the morning: some water was already in the streets, more rain could still fall, and officials were telling drivers and families to plan for delays rather than count on a quick return to normal.
