Tauhid Dewan was arrested Tuesday afternoon on multiple charges after an alleged incident aboard a No. 7 subway train in Queens, and prosecutors said he was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Queens Criminal Court. The NYPD Transit Bureau made the arrest after police say the episode unfolded just before 5 p.m. as passengers were getting off at the Junction Boulevard station.
Dewan, 28, was accused of touching a 40-year-old woman’s private area as she exited the train. The two were strangers with no prior connection, according to police sources cited by PIX11 News. Digital reported that he was charged with forcible touching on a bus or train, third-degree sexual abuse, second-degree harassment involving physical contact and acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17.
City records show Dewan had worked at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as a senior investigative analyst since July 10, 2022. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office confirmed to Digital that he had been suspended after the arrest. A June 2025 press release on the office’s website listed Senior Investigative Analyst Tauhid Dewan as one of the staff members assisting with a gun trafficking conspiracy case involving an alleged member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
The arrest lands in an office that regularly prosecutes subway sex crimes, a point that makes the case harder to ignore. Over several years, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has used its own press releases to announce indictments in forcible touching cases, serial subway sex abuse and sexual assault across the city transit system, while the Crime Strategies Unit is meant to support data-driven prosecution strategies and frontline trial bureaus. That backdrop gives the case added weight because the man accused here worked inside the same office that pursues those offenses.
The next step is straightforward: Dewan’s arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday will put the charges on the record and move the case out of the station and into court.
