David Wilcock, a regular contributor on Ancient Aliens and one of the best-known voices in the UFO and conspiracy world, died at 53 after Boulder County deputies responded to a call Monday morning over speculation that someone was in a mental health crisis.
Authorities said deputies arrived at a residence at about 11:02 a.m. and found a male outside holding a weapon. Within minutes, he used the weapon on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene. The person was later identified as Wilcock.
His family said Wilcock took his own life on April 20, 2026, after a long struggle with depression and overwhelming financial debt. They said the loss should push more attention toward mental health care access.
Wilcock built a large following online, drawing 520,000 subscribers on YouTube and turning that audience into a platform for his projects, including The Cosmic Secret, Wisdom Teachings and Cosmic Disclosure. He was also the author of The Synchronicity Key: The Hidden Intelligence Guiding the Universe and You and The Source Field Investigations: The Hidden Science and Lost Civilizations Behind the 2012 Prophecies, both of which became New York Times bestsellers.
His work reached well beyond ancient aliens-style entertainment. He became known for extraterrestrial content and for projects tied to conspiracy theories about world governments, including the United States, giving him a devoted audience and a long list of critics.
What makes his death matter now is the size of the audience he left behind and the way it ended: in the middle of a mental health response, with family saying the deeper story was not fame but depression and debt. That leaves a public figure whose online reach was enormous, but whose final chapter was defined by the private crisis his family described.
