will start the opener, while , who had been scheduled to pitch the postponed game, will take the ball in Game 2. Reliever will be the Mets’ 27th man for the doubleheader.

The makeup format matters because the game will not be played as a standalone reschedule. It has been pushed into the front end of a full day at Citi Field, with the Mets using a fresh arm in McLean for the first game and Senga following in the nightcap. The club’s pitching depth gives it options, though Senga’s leash cannot be long.

The postponement also rippled beyond New York. , the Mets hitting coach, flew to Atlanta after the game was called so he could catch ’s induction into the Braves Hall of Fame before the Braves met the Phillies at Truist Park. Philadelphia went on to beat Atlanta 8-5 in ten innings.

Elsewhere around the majors, the Nationals beat the White Sox 6-3 in extras, the Marlins lost to the Giants 6-2, the Padres opened the Mexico City Series with a 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks, and the Dodgers beat the Cubs 12-4 to end Chicago’s 10-game winning streak. For the Mets, though, the weather delay is the immediate issue, and Thursday’s twinbill now shapes the rest of the series.

April 26 will turn the postponed Rockies - Mets matchup into a long day for both clubs, with the Mets trying to absorb the disruption and still cover nine innings twice before the night is over.
