became the first player to confirm he will play McLaren clubs this week, setting up a debut at the PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship as formally launched on Wednesday. Rose plans to unveil a new set of irons at Trump National Doral in Miami.

The move gives the 45-year-old another equipment switch at a time when his game is already carrying real weight. He is No. 5 in the world rankings, leads the PGA Tour in greens in regulation and sits seventh in strokes gained approach after finishing second at the Masters this month. Rose has now finished runner-up at Augusta three times, including his 2013 U.S. Open-winning form that made him one of the most established names in the game.

’s push into golf comes from a company best known for its Formula 1 team and luxury cars, and the brand chose a splashy week to make its entrance. was announced as a McLaren Golf player on Tuesday, while has hinted that he could join the roster. Rose’s role is the one that matters most for now, both because he is the first to go public and because McLaren says he has been involved from the beginning.

“I’ve had the opportunity to be involved from the outset — working with the team, testing the clubs and helping shape what they’ve become,” Rose said. His relationship with McLaren chief goes back years, and he is also a regular golf partner of , giving the partnership a personal thread as well as a commercial one.

Still, the timing is not without risk. Rose signed with Honma in 2019 and moved on quickly when his form deteriorated, a reminder that new equipment can be a distraction as much as an upgrade. He is two weeks away from the PGA Championship, and the expected setup in Miami — a combo set of McLaren Series 1 irons from 5-PW, a McLaren Series 3 4-iron and the rest of the bag unchanged — suggests a careful test rather than a full overhaul.

Rose’s form makes the experiment easier to justify, but it also makes any stumble harder to ignore. A player who is near the top of the rankings and still hunting major success cannot afford many false starts, and McLaren is asking him to help give a new golf brand credibility at exactly that moment.
