Wolves host Sunderland at Molineux on Saturday with Rob Edwards still trying to piece together a side that has already had relegation confirmed and has lost three games in a row. Jose Sa is a slight doubt because of an ankle issue, while Ladislav Krejci will not be ready for the match.
Edwards said Krejci had joined in parts of training on the day he spoke, but not enough to be considered for the game. He added that Sa has been playing through a lot of pain for some time, and that the club will try to get the keeper’s ankle right in the next game or two.
The Wolves boss said the team is still searching for a winning team again after a difficult season that has left them bottom of the Premier League. Even so, he pointed to the way the squad has kept working, saying the players are giving everything and that the supporters have been incredible despite the results.
There is also a gap between the effort Edwards sees and the quality he still needs. He said training levels have improved since he arrived, but quality remains an issue, and Sunderland will provide another demanding test after what he described as a fantastic couple of years for the visitors. Wolves need more than effort now; they need a lineup that can finally turn that into a result.
For Sa, the immediate question is whether he can get through the week and keep his place. For Wolves, the bigger issue is whether a team that has already gone down can still produce a performance that gives the season a more convincing finish.
