Jayson Tatum was unable to suit up for the Boston Celtics in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers on May 2 because he was dealing with stiffness in his left knee, and attention quickly turned to his long-running connection with Ella Mai. The musician and songwriter has been linked with Tatum since 2019, and the two had a son, Dylan, in 2024.
Mai was in Los Angeles earlier this week for the Billboard Women in Music event, where she appeared in what looked like a purple or black corset and presented the Women of the Year Award to EJAE, AUDREY NUNA and REI AMI of HUNTR/X. A Billboard Instagram video showed her talking about how she changes her shows depending on the city she is playing, and a YouTube video posted of the same appearance captured her in the same outfit.
There is still no clear public point at which the relationship officially began. Both have kept their private lives largely off social media, which has left the timeline to be pieced together from appearances and references over time. Mai has also been touring the world after having a child, and she did not appear to be at the Celtics' game against the 76ers, or at least was not posting about it online.
That leaves the clearest answer to the question around the Ella Mai Jayson Tatum relationship in plain view: it is real enough to have produced a child and survive another public moment for both of them, even if they have never made it a social media spectacle. On May 2, Tatum was on the sideline; Mai was onstage in Los Angeles. The rest has remained their business.
