Art Corner by Clark and Leo opened its ninth exhibition, Art Is Therapy, in Budapest on 22 April, bringing contemporary art into a hospitality setting at Hotel Clark Budapest and Leo Bistro. The show features works by Judit Horváth Lóczi and explores the therapeutic potential of artistic practice.
The exhibition gives that idea a personal frame. Lóczi’s paintings and small scale sculptural works draw on experience, emotional memory and the varied dimensions of female identity, with material first presented in Berlin in 2020. The opening was held as a private vernissage attended by prominent figures from the Hungarian art scene.
That private launch leaned into the exhibition’s theme. In 2014, while working on her diploma project, Lóczi encountered Anna Freud’s theory of defence mechanisms, a reference point that continues to inform the work now shown in Budapest. The evening included a performance by Zoltán Grecsó, accompanied by cellist Endre Kertész, while Leo Bistro prepared a multi-course menu created specifically for the occasion.
The food and drink program was built as part of the same experience rather than as an add-on. The menu was paired with the Elegantly Wasted sparkling wine from Sauska, and a small selection of bespoke cocktails was also created for the evening. For Art Corner by Clark and Leo, the show reinforces a niche it has been developing by placing contemporary art inside a hospitality environment, turning a hotel and restaurant launch into a broader cultural event.
