is heading back to on May 4, joining Season 24’s Top 5 as the show marks 20 years since aired in 2006. Bennett, who finished in fifth place when she was 17 years old, is set to step back onto the stage that helped make her name.

The return matters because Bennett has never stopped working the way many fans remember her — as a singer, actress, and entertainer still trying to keep her music career moving. She released the single Why Is That in 2024, appeared in an episode of in 2022 and turned up in the 2025 short The Coworker, even though she has not put out a full album since 2008.

That long gap does not mean she disappeared. Bennett’s Instagram bio still identifies her as a singer, actress, and entertainer, and she has continued to surface around music even as the business changed around her. In 2006, won Season 5 and finished second, but Bennett’s run left her with a different kind of afterlife: a career that has continued in fits and starts rather than in one straight line.

Motherhood has been part of that story. Bennett has a daughter, Egypt, who was born in October 2008, and she previously told Essence that she works so Egypt can have whatever she wants. She also said people told her she would not be able to have a career and a baby, a warning she described as motivation instead of a limit.

“Being a mom is not an easy thing, and it’s an understatement if someone says it is,” Bennett said. “It takes time and a great deal of self-determination.” She added, “I had my share of people saying I wouldn’t be able to have a career and a baby, but that just made me want it more.”

The spotlight is brighter now because Bennett’s public life has not been limited to music. She was involved in a love triangle scandal with and , who in 2017 left Wyatt while she was eight months pregnant with their child. After Jamar and Wyatt separated, Bennett called him her man crush Monday in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Jamar later said in a statement through his team that “Keke and I are legally divorced” and that “There was never any cheating that took place in our relationship by either party.” He also said, “We are now free to be whoever’s MCM or WCW, and they are free to use whatever caption they want on their individual pages.” Bennett and Jamar do not appear to be together anymore, and her current relationship status is unclear.

What is clear is that Bennett is still pushing forward on her own terms. The May 4 appearance gives her a return to the platform that introduced her to a national audience and, on the 20th anniversary of Season 5, a reminder that fifth place in 2006 did not finish the story.
