is closing 14 more stores in 2026, adding to the 66 locations it shut in 2025 as the department store chain pushes ahead with its plan. The latest round includes stores at Grossmont Center and West Valley Mall in California, the Macy's at , and the Northlake Mall location in Tucker, which is scheduled to close next year without an exact date yet announced.

The closures land after Macy's reported a surprisingly strong holiday season, a reminder that the company is shrinking even as sales show signs of resilience. Under Bold New Chapter, Macy's is making targeted adjustments to its physical retail footprint so it can reinvest in digital capabilities, but the cuts are still hitting shoppers who have long relied on nearby stores for in-person shopping.

California remains one of the chain's biggest battlegrounds. Macy's still has about 78 locations in the state, even as Grossmont Center and West Valley Mall lose their stores. In New Jersey, the pressure is just as visible: the and are both losing their Macy's department stores, and the state has 28 Macy's locations remaining. At Boulevard Mall, the Macy's is closing, leaving local residents to travel to in Cheektowaga if they want to shop the chain in person.

The pattern is not new. Crossroads Center Mall lost its Macy's anchor store in March, and the chain began a liquidation sale there with discounts of up to 70% off the lowest ticketed prices. RiverTown Crossings lost its Macy's at the end of March, and that location is now permanently closed. Marley Station Mall is also losing another anchor store, while the Mall at Fox Run is slated for demolition to make way for a new commercial redevelopment.

The result is a slower, more selective Macy's footprint, even in places where the brand still has a major presence. The company is not just closing stores; it is redrawing where it expects shoppers to find it next.
