Atmos Energy Corp. is scheduled to release second-quarter fiscal 2026 results on May 6 after market close, giving investors a fresh read on a utility that serves 3.4 million customers. The gas distributor delivered an earnings surprise of 1.24% in the last reported quarter, and analysts now expect another quarter of year-over-year growth.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate calls for earnings of $3.36 per share on revenue of $2.22 billion. That would mark increases of 10.9% and 13.7%, respectively, from a year earlier. Atmos Energy also carries an Earnings ESP of +0.20% and a Zacks Rank #2, a combination that points to modestly favorable odds heading into the report.
The company’s results are expected to reflect demand from its large customer base and the benefits of a diversified, expanding jurisdictional footprint. Atmos Energy has been investing in transmission and distribution infrastructure, work that may have improved reliability and service quality in the quarter to be reported. New rate implementations and constructive regulatory mechanisms across its service regions are also likely to have supported the bottom line, while higher distribution revenues appear to have added another lift.
Those gains may not have come without a cost. Higher operation and maintenance expenses may have trimmed some of the benefit from stronger revenues and rate support, leaving the report as a test of how much of the company’s operational spending is still being absorbed by the growth in its regulated business. Atmos Energy’s last quarter showed it can beat expectations, but the coming release will show whether that pattern is holding as the utility continues to expand and modernize its network.
Atmos Energy is not the only utility investor will be watching this week. ONE Gas is slated to report first-quarter 2026 results on May 4 after market close, Duke Energy on May 5 before market open and NiSource on May 6 before market open, setting up a busy stretch for the sector just as Atmos Energy posts its own numbers.
