Buffalo Police responded to a shots-fired call along Jefferson Avenue at Southampton just before 10 p.m. Thursday and found a 19-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers took the woman to Erie County Medical Center for treatment. The Buffalo Police Department's Gun Violence Unit is handling the investigation.
The shooting adds another late-night call for buffalo police in a city where gun violence investigations often begin with little more than a report of shots fired and end with one injured person taken to the hospital. In this case, the victim was found quickly after the call came in, but police have not released further details about what led to the shooting.
That leaves the Gun Violence Unit with the central question now: who fired the shots along Jefferson Avenue and why. For the woman taken to Erie County Medical Center, the immediate answer is already known. She survived long enough to reach treatment, and the investigation into how she was shot is now in police hands.
