Drake Lindsey was arrested early Friday in Arkansas on allegations that he had alcohol as a minor and was carrying a fake ID. The Gophers quarterback was booked into the county jail at 1:13 a.m. CT and released at 8:28 a.m. on a $470 bond.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Lindsey faces pending charges of minor in possession of alcohol and possession of fraudulent identification. He is due in court on June 1.
A Gophers spokesperson said, “We are aware of the situation and will address it internally.” The response leaves the team to handle the matter just as Lindsey enters his redshirt sophomore season as the unquestioned starting quarterback.
The arrest lands at a delicate moment for the 20-year-old, who is from Fayetteville and attended Fayetteville High School. Lindsey will turn 21 on Aug. 18, but he is already being counted on to lead Minnesota after a spring in which he completed 4 of 5 passes for 89 yards in the team’s spring game, including a 74-yard connection with Noah Jennings on his first throw.
Lindsey’s profile was built at Fayetteville High, where he led the school to an undefeated season and a state championship as a senior. That year, he threw for 3,941 yards with 54 touchdowns and three interceptions and later was named the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year.
The incident adds a jolt of uncertainty to a season in which expectations have been high for him. Nate Tice ranked Lindsey No. 24 on his 2027 NFL Draft big board, a reminder of how much attention has followed him into Minneapolis and how quickly that attention can shift when a night in Arkansas becomes a public record.
What happens next is now straightforward: Lindsey has a court date on June 1, and Minnesota has already said it will handle the matter internally. For a player expected to steer the Gophers’ offense, that is the part that matters most now.
