Michael J. says is still one of the most youthful people he knows, even as the co-star turns 88.

Fox spoke to PEOPLE on April 15 at in Nashville, where he said the two had gone out for dinner a few days earlier and then shared a joint Instagram post showing them smiling and leaning in over a meal. The caption read, “Dining with my bestie at the beach. Next year BTTF is 41. Great Scott. Chris will be 8️⃣8️⃣. That’s some serious s---,” and Lloyd replied, “Man, that’s heavy.” said of the dinner, “He and I went out for dinner a few days ago, and he said he'd be 88... when he turns 88. But he's great. He's one of the most youthful guys I know. So young,” adding, “Yeah. I put a picture on my Instagram,” in reference to the post.

The exchange landed during a fundraiser that marked a major milestone for the Foundation, which said the Nashville events had helped it raise more than $3.5 million over the past three years. The number 88 still carries a special charge for fans of Back to the Future, the 1985 film that made the pair part of movie history and used 88 as the speed the DeLorean needed to hit to travel through time.

Fox also used the interview to make clear he would return to if asked, saying, “Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. I love Bill [Lawrence] and I'm so happy it's a success. And it's such a great time being with those actors.” His recent appearance on the series drew critical acclaim, and the comment leaves little doubt that he is open to more work if the offer comes. Fox, 64, has also kept busy offscreen, releasing his memoir Future Boy at the end of 2025.

For all the nostalgia baked into the dinner, the point was not just a joke about age. It was Fox treating a long-running friendship like something still alive, still funny and still in motion, which is exactly why the post resonated. Forty-one years after Back to the Future, he and Lloyd are still getting the last word.
